Have you ever wanted to learn from a professional photographer? Gary Mc Alea hosts private and small-group photo workshops throughout the year. They typically range from ½ day to 4-day sessions tailored to the needs of the group, with small group sizes enabling hands-on instruction. See some of the options below.
For a private session tailored to your individual needs, email us at Workshops@GaryMcalea.com or call us at 737-203-7909. We’ll work with you to find the right session, timing, and location. Need inspiration? We can do private sessions of any of our sample trips and tours listed below.
Small-group workshops typically include no more than 4 to 6 people so that every participant gets personal attention. Past small-group workshop themes have included general camera skills, wildlife photography, birding photography, herpetology photography, and other specialty sessions. Open classes are posted on social media. We will also gladly work with you on setting up a custom workshop that best suits your group.

Join us for an early morning walk along the banks of Brazos Bend State Park to learn how to capture images of their impressive collection of resident, wild alligators. The waters of the park are also home to numerous birds that feed in the waters early in the morning, offering the potential for exciting feeding photos along the way.
Whale Tours – Seasonal (small groups)
One of our favorite places to whale watch in the US is the California coast. When the whales are coming through, we’ll take a whale watching tour to capture these gentle giants as they eat, swim and play in the ocean. One of Gary’s favorite former attendees has had his whale photography shared by National Geographic, BBC, and other international wildlife organizations. Maybe you’ll be next with Gary’s help.
